IT's late in the evening, nearing midnight, and Im up creating. The soft piano jazz is lulling the evening to sleep while I slowly turn what's in my subconscious to my conscious. Baroque is the flavor of the evenings inspiration, with a touch of Cecily Brown thrown in there. One of the things I love about Baroque paintings is the mood they create. They're generally very dark and moody, but there is a loud quiet voice being heard. The paintings bring you in close as if a smoldering campfire warming the evening. That's what I want these works to do.I want to create that richness and feeling of something there without it being there to give the eye something to enjoy, bring you in and keep looking. This piece is still a work in progress. minus the washouts and the loops the vast majority of this work was done by hand.
Below is the progression of this work. I decided to reuse a painting that I didn't particularly like, and didn't really finish from earlier this summer. The painting was built off a "windows" concept of mine and how they coincide with the past, future and the present. With this new work I'm working through a lot of emotions this time of year. Having personal and relationship struggles this is an amazing way to provide a good, positive mental health environment.
As an artist I would be curious as to what you the viewer would think of this piece? What do you like, what don't you like? How does this painting make you feel?
