barge pullers

Updated: Oct 12, 2024

This particular work was brought on by various influences going on in the world right now to which are relevant to today's circumstances, and will likely be a part of the world throughout the rest of time. Migrants are what the US is made up of and for there to be any sort of malace brought to the influx of migrants to the "new world" should be snuffed out.

Like most of my abstracts the work evolves on it's own as i change colors and shapes, but the basic foundation was created based off the original painting by Ilya Repin's "the barge pullers" which is thought of as a very political piece. When viewing the painting you get a sense of weight...there is this feeling of mire that weigh on the viewer as though witnessing a beeting...or some other horrific act on a human life. my work may not have the visual impact of the barge pullers, but I carry much of the sybolism within. the red nonsided rectagle represents the weight and the act of a person being singled out, being different, not from the area. the sial and boat are separate entities as they carry different meaning within themselves. The boat is much like the harlequin... a jokester in that it has the ability to take on various rolls. The sail, is like a time machine. it offers the ability to transport, generate movement with no power of it's own. It's a liason through that we communicate.
